In most cases, multinational companies exporting to Middle Eastern markets already have an existing Latin corporate typeface, carefully designed to meet specific objectives.
Designing a corporate typeface in Arabic is a real challenge. We have to achieve harmony with the existing Latin and maintain a balance of weight, style, point size and legibility in order for the design to work with all the company’s communication materials. For example, in the case of the Mercedes-Benz Arabic typeface, we had to design a range of three weights taking into consideration the original Latin range, developed by the famous international type designer Professor Kurt Weidemann.
As well as designing special corporate Arabic typefaces for multinational companies we also work on commissions from local companies. For example, we designed a special Arabic typeface for "Al Hayat" (pan-Arab newspaper), "Laha" magazine, "Al Arabiya", the BBC Arabic Channel and many other local companies.
